Workshop: Caring for Cornish Cross Chickens

10/02/2018 11:00 AM - 03:00 PM ET

Description

This past Saturday, the PSPCA and Indraloka Animal Sanctuary helped rescue over 1,100 Cornish Cross chicks from a lot without  food or water in Northern Pennsylvania. To read the full story, click here

The chicks are now safe, and the PSPCA, Indraloka, several animal care organizations, and compassionate volunteers are working together to find them their forever homes!

Indraloka is excited to offer screened adopters a free workshop on caring for Cornish Cross chickens. This crash course will cover:

  • Nutritional and physiological needs of Cornish Crosses
  • Proper handling methods
  • Conducting health checks to recognize and treat common issues
  • Protecting chickens from inclement weather
  • Spacing requirements
  • ...and more!

This donation-based workshop will be held on Tuesday, October 2nd and again on Saturday, October 6th from 11 am–3 pm. (Adopters only need to be present at one of the workshops.)

Indraloka Animal Care Manager Jim Marcinko and Caregiver Arianna Pappas will teach the class. A vegan lunch will be provided.

For those who are unable to adopt but are interested in learning more about chickens, or are not in the PA area, you can still join us! We will live stream a twenty-minute portion of the workshop on October 2nd at around 11 am on the Indraloka Facebook page

Applications to adopt a chick are now available. If you're interested in welcoming a new feathered friend into your home, please fill out the Adoption Application and email to Kelsie at kkelly@pspca.org with the subject line Cornish Cross Adoption. Please submit your application prior to the course date.
